Which Festive Drink You Should Make?  (Earth Signs)

Taurus:  White Christmas Cocktail

Photo thanks to vecteezy.com

This cocktail takes the traditional, time-honored Christmas eggnog libation we all know and love to the next level.  It adds more flavor to your traditional, rich eggnog, which will appeal to those of you who typically aren’t fans of this festive drink all on its own.

The recipe couldn’t be easier, too!  It calls for four simple ingredients, including the garnish!  In a snifter glass or tumbler, you’ll mix together regular, chilled eggnog (store-bought — or homemade, if you have the time), Southern Comfort, and white chocolate liqueur.  White chocolate liqueur isn’t as common as chocolate liqueur, and it may be a little more difficult to find, even during the holidays.  If needed, you can substitute white crème de cacao for the liqueur, although your drink won’t be as creamy!

Stir the drink gently and follow with the garnish — chocolate and gold shavings are popular, as is cinnamon (sprinkles or sticks!) — and enjoy!

To make this drink non-alcoholic:  Substitute the white chocolate liqueur with white chocolate syrup — similar to what is used in white chocolate mochas!  You can omit the Southern Comfort altogether or substitute Lyre’s American Malt (a non-alcoholic alternative) for the bourbon, or you can use maple syrup for additional flavor.

Virgo:  Hot Buttered Rum

This Hot Buttered Rum recipe is nothing if not a traditional, classic drink.  It’s estimated to have been around since the 16th century — and was even featured in the 1887 Jerry Thomas “The Bartenders Guide,” the iconic manual of the time.  It’s warmed family and friends on chilly evenings for centuries.  It’s sure to keep you warm and cozy all season long!

The key to this recipe is the yummy “hot buttered rum batter,” which sounds a lot more complicated to make than it actually is.  Simply roll out 6 tablespoons of butter until it’s nice and flat, then sprinkle the top with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice (exact amounts are in the recipe) — and blend the mixture well.

For each drink, you’ll add a generous dollop of this batter into your glass before pouring in the rum and boiling water, stirring until they are well combined.  To make your drink sweeter, you can top it off with some whipped cream or substitute boiling water for hot apple cider.

To make this drink non-alcoholic:  Substitute the boiling water for hot apple cider as the base and add in a few drops of alcohol-free rum extract — make sure it says alcohol-free, as lots of extracts still contain some alcohol (for example, McCormick’s Imitation Rum Extract has 35% alcohol) — and/or add vanilla extra to make up for the missing rum flavor!

Capricorn:  Christmas Coffee

All right, my dear Capricorns, let’s take that coffee that runs through your veins and make it Christmas!

This recipe is super simple and requires only a few additional steps to transform your favorite morning cup of joe into a fun and festive treat.

First, prepare the coffee using your preferred method.  The recipe says that drip or pour-over coffee is the best way to go, but you can also use a French press, moka pot, or even your standard coffee maker if that’s how you like it best.

Once you’ve prepared the perfect coffee, you’ll want to add some gingerbread syrup.  You can make this sweet syrup yourself, or use store-bought if you’re short on time.  Then spike it with your preferred liqueur.  Bailey’s Irish Cream is suggested, but you can also use Irish Whiskey, Bourbon, Brandy, or Kahlua.  Again, whatever you prefer!

Top off your Christmas coffee creation with homemade (or store-bought) whipped cream and red and green sprinkles — and enjoy!  They say homemade whipped cream is to die for, so, if you have the time, I highly recommend trying it at least once this holiday season.  Instructions are simple, and it could make your Christmas coffee unforgettable!

To make this drink non-alcoholic:  Simply omit the liqueur!  It will taste just as scrumptious without it.
