Being stuck inside during the colder months can feel incredibly stifling to you, my free-spirited air signs. I know you’re yearning for spring to come — you can’t wait to venture outdoors and feel the warm breeze through your hair once more. But winter does have its advantages!
We’ve assembled a list of ways for you to keep your mind sharp and your spirits bright this winter. We don’t want you to feel like leaving your home when it’s cold out is a calamity — and who knows? You may actually find yourself enjoying the cold!
Buy cute new winter clothes
Nothing lifts your spirits quite like a new addition to your wardrobe, air signs. After all, when you look your best, you feel your best! Your outfit is a work of art!
When you’re feeling especially dull, take yourself on a mini shopping spree or hit up your local thrift shop to pull you out of that winter funk. Find yourself a cozy sweater to keep you spirited and warm all season long, a brightly-colored puffy coat to help you brave the winter storm, or an eccentric hat or scarf that brings you joy every time you wear it.
You don’t have to break the bank. You can just find yourself a little something special that’s warm and marvelous that will motivate you to leave your house and show it off!

Go sledding
Next time your area is covered in a fine blanket of snow, bundle up in your new, warm winter clothes and trek on over to the nearest hill — with a sled! There are a bunch of different sleds to choose from: Toboggan, snow scooter, saucer, and sledges (sledges are the type with the metal runners that you probably think of when you hear “sled”) to name a few. If you’re a beginner, try a toboggan or saucer. If you’d like more of a challenge, try the snow scooter! And, of course, if you want to go nostalgic, you have to go with the sledge!
If you haven’t been sledding recently, I guarantee it will bring you as much joy now as it did when you were younger. If you haven’t been ever, then you’re in for a treat! The dopamine rush you feel as you zoom down the hill will have you laughing and howling with glee. You may not even recognize yourself by how carefree you feel!
No sled? No problem! Air signs know how to improvise. You should invest in a proper sled if you go to a large hill with lots of people, but trash can lids, boogie boards, a small kiddie pool, or even laundry baskets or inner tubes will do in a pinch for a smaller neighborhood hill! Just be careful and make sure you only use things you aren’t emotionally attached to — they may not survive the trip!
Pick up nature photography
Why not put your affinity for picking up new skills to good use by trying your hand at nature photography? It’ll certainly keep you busy and give you a new appreciation for the beauty of each season.
You don’t need to have a fancy, thousand-dollar camera to photograph breathtaking stills. With your eye for beauty and the unique, you’d be surprised by what kind of magic just your cell phone camera can make. Take a trip to your local park or scan your backyard with a critical eye. Who knows what marvels of nature you’ll be able to capture?! There are so many avenues you could explore with this in the future — like hosting photography tours in your area, either as a personal photographer for all the great shots, or as a guide, showing people where the best shots are.
Post your photos to social media to share with your friends and loved ones, decorate your home with them, or even create a photo album of all your favorites to remind you just how beautiful this incredible world can be — even in the winter! The important thing is, make this the winter you will put on your winter coat, go outside, and grow your world!
Host a tea party
Embrace your inner Bridgerton and throw the ultimate event of the season! If there’s anyone who can nail the ornate details required to throw a tea party, it’s you. I mean, you’ll probably learn calligraphy just to make homemade place cards for all your guests! Picture your elegant winter wonderland tea party, set up by the best window, tea trolly at hand with a warm, varied selection of teas and treats for friends. For inspiration, click here!
I’m sure you’ll go all out with your spread. Fancy teacups or silly mugs (depending on your aesthetic) and three-tiered stands piled high with scrumptious homemade scones (or store bought if you don’t have the time to make your own) and plenty of delectable finger sandwiches.
Have your friends come dressed in their Sunday best — or in splendid RegencyCore attire — and be prepared for a leisurely afternoon spent with dear friends sipping fragrant teas and catching up on all the latest gossip!
Treat yourself to a spa weekend
A spa weekend is the perfect pick-me-up for these colder winter months. Feel your icy blues melt away as you lounge in a wet or dry toasty sauna, go for a detox with a deep-tissue massage, or experience the bliss of an aromatherapy massage. Everyone could use some pampering every once in a while to relax and rest — and a facial couldn’t hurt, either!
I know some spas can be a little pricey, but you’ve worked hard this year and accumulated some serious brownie points — you deserve some TLC! Browse through the spas in your area that offer a variety of packages. You’re sure to find something that looks delightful.
If a full spa is not in your budget or bookings are unavailable when you are, you can always give yourself an at-home spa treatment — loads of products are especially made for at-home pampering. If a sauna is what you really crave, check your local health clubs — most offer day passes to try out their facilities before deciding to join. You may find it the perfect place for your year-round sauna plans. And a good pampering will do wonders for your mental health!
Finish a jigsaw puzzle
You crave mental stimulation, my intellectual air signs. Jigsaw puzzles require patience, problem-solving and logic skills, and a fondness for challenges. These are the ideal winter activity to keep your mind busy on even the most frigid of winter days. Plus, there’s something very satisfying in fitting the last piece into the jigsaw puzzle you’ve been working on forever! You can start off small with a 100-piece puzzle or challenge yourself by jumping to puzzles ranging from 500 to 1,000 pieces each — or more! You can work on them alone or invite your friends and family to join you. There are even 3D puzzles if you really want a challenge!
Once your puzzle is finished, you can either break it down and give it to one of your friends to try or Mod Podge it front and back, and frame it as a beautiful art piece for your living room. It’ll surely be a conversation starter!
By the way — I know you’ll want to know, so I’ll share with you: If you enjoy jigsaw puzzles, there’s a word for that! You’re a “Dissectologist” — and you can take that to your next Scrabble match!
