Time sure is flying by this year, and Valentine’s Day is almost upon us!
Regardless of how you’ve felt about previous Valentine’s Days, I think it’s safe to say that these days we could all use an excuse to celebrate. It doesn’t matter if you’re single and ready to mingle or have been in a happily committed relationship for years, let’s commit to spicing things up and having some fun this Valentine’s Day!
Whether you’re gearing up to hit the town or content with snuggling up on the couch, here are some great ideas for what to wear and some tips to make you feel a little sexier and more confident this year ;)
Slide into a satin or silk slip dress
If you’re looking for something that’s simple and elegant, then a satin or silk slip dress is just the look for you.
Now, I’m not saying it has to be the quintessential little black dress, okay? While that’s always a safe bet, why not take a little more of a risk this Valentine’s Day?
Even though a slip dress is another classic look, we can always find new ways to mix it up. Add a little dimension by ditching solid colors and get a dress with a fun design or add a funky patterned jacket. If that’s not really your speed, then at least try to branch out into a color that’s brighter or more jewel toned.
The dress itself can be short and tight or long with a cheeky slit to show off your legs. Whatever you’re most comfortable with! Simple accessories would work best with this look, but I’d always recommend adding something that adds just a little bit of sparkle.
Corsets make a comeback
Corset tops have got to be my favorite comeback trend so far.
If you’ve been stuck in a rut and are having trouble viewing yourself as the beautiful, sultry being that you are, corsets provide a great way to see yourself in a whole new light — and they give you the chance to try something new.
With all the different colors and designs out there, they’re sexy, edgy, fun, sweet, and very versatile. They accentuate all your body’s natural curves, and you can wear them with pretty much anything!
Pair one with your favorite faux-leather jacket and jeans, or wear it by itself with a skirt and some heels. You can throw your hair into a fancy up-do with some dangly earrings or keep it down and wild!
There are endless combinations, and there are a variety of corset styles that fit all different body types, so there’s something out there for everyone.
However, always remember to wear a corset that fits properly — you can send in your measurements to a corset maker and have one made just for you! Though a little pricey, it’s a worthwhile investment that will last longer, look better, and be way more comfortable.
Get crafty with these two-piece cutout sweaters
This new sweater trend is sweeping the nation, taking cropped sweaters to a whole new level.
By only covering the neck, arms, and shoulders, it still gives you that warm sweater feel, but allows you to accentuate and show off your figure.
You can buy a set with a matching tank top sweater or make it your own by cropping an old sweater and wearing a different top underneath! This sweater combination can easily be dressed down with jeans or dressed up with a tight mini skirt and heels.
If the two-piece look isn’t working for you, you could always try a different variation of the cutout sweater; there are plenty out there! You could try an open-back, shoulder cut, or even a halter style to mix up your sweater game.
Show off your sequins
Like I said, this year started off pretty rough, and we’re going to be using any excuse we have to celebrate.
You’re allowed to be a little flashy on Valentine’s Day. Bring some attention to yourself!
I mean, you don’t have to be decked out in sequins from head-to-toe like a disco ball (unless you want to, of course, then by all means go for it!) but adding a few sequined pieces could provide just the sparkle your V-Day outfit needs.
Throw on a hot pink sequined top with your new pair of white jeans and some sexy red pumps, or (if you’d like to take it a step further) find yourself a matching crop-top and skirt set.
And don’t forget those accessories! Even just incorporating a sequined handbag or some sparkling shoes can add the perfect amount of shine to upgrade the simplest of outfits.
Bring out the blazer
If you’re looking for something a little more polished this Valentine’s Day, I’d say take a sleek new blazer out for a spin.
You can pair it with a cute bralette or crop-top to give that flirty, yet suave look. Just throw on a pair of faux-leather leggings or tight black jeans with your party heels, add bright red lipstick to your look, and you are ready to go!
I would suggest staying away from a black-on-black or black-and-white combo this year. While it can be very classy and elegant, why not have a little more fun this Valentine’s Day?
We want to look sophisticated, but not too serious. Play around with some bright, festive colors! It wouldn’t be Valentine’s Day without some pink or red splashed in there.
Slip on some stockings
Stockings are a staple when it comes to Valentine’s Day. You can usually find them for a great price, and they’re an easy way to give your outfit a classy, elegant look without the struggle of having to wriggle yourself into a pair of tights.
You can wear the classic sheer nylon stockings topped with lace or you can mix it up a little bit!
Maybe go for an edgier fishnet pattern or trade in the thin nylon for some thicker, more cozy cable-knit thigh highs. The benefit of the cable-knit material is that it provides a thicker layer of protection against the cold, and it pairs quite nicely with a sweater-dress.
Black is always a great go-to, but you can try mixing it up with some white, gray, red, or pink to add a little Valentine’s Day flair.
Put on those party heels!
I don’t know about you, but in the past two years, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve worn heels (and my God did I regret it the next day, but my legs looked incredible, so it was worth it!). My feet just aren’t used to them anymore.
But ladies, we’ve got to smile through the pain or invest in some comfy inserts because it’s time to break out those party heels again!
As much as they may hurt, you’ve got to admit that high heels just add a certain sexy flair to any outfit. There’s just something about the sound of your heels click-clacking against the pavement that demands attention.
They make you feel hotter and more confident.
Again, let’s try to stay away from the basic black if you can help it. Sparkly, jeweled, or even just a brightly colored heel will make even the most casual of outfits more fun and festive!
Combat boots coming through!
Not a fan of heels? No worries.
Combat boots provide a great, more practical alternative to some fancy high heels, especially for our readers in the colder states. They’re cute, stylish, and are much better suited for tromping through the February winter snow.
Plus, they make you feel so powerful as you walk down the street, and they go with just about any outfit.
That cute new slip dress you just bought? Combat boots and a faux-leather jacket. A long sweater and leggings for a night in with friends? Combat boots and a cute scarf. Running out in your PJs to grab your DoorDash order? Combat boots and a big puffy jacket.
Black is always a solid choice, but if you’re looking for something a little different you can always try out white or even a multi-colored boot!
Settle into some satin PJs
Are fancy dresses not really your speed? Or maybe you just don’t feel like going out this Valentine’s Day? No problem! But you can still make the night a special occasion.
Substitute the silk slip dress with some satin PJs! While fuzzy pajamas are incredibly comfortable, treat yourself to something a little more suited to the occasion.
You can even throw a Galantine’s Pajama Party! Invite over your closest girlfriends, bake some heart-shaped cookies, and watch your favorite rom-com.
Or you can drink some wine, blast your favorite Taylor Swift tunes, and have a dance party!
You can even have a little makeshift photoshoot in your living room!
We love to see women supporting women and celebrating each other’s beauty.
Lounge around in lingerie
Like our self-love queen Lizzo once said, “I’m gonna lounge around in my lingerie!” It’s the quintessential Valentine’s Day look, so of course we have to mention it!
You can wear it under your clothes on a night out or surprise your partner by wearing it into the bedroom. I guarantee you, they’ll appreciate it.
“But what if I don’t have anyone to wear it for?” Hello! You have yourself, don’t you?
The whole purpose of lingerie is to make you feel sexy and confident.
If you want to embrace your inner romance movie ingenue by curling up on the couch in lingerie with a big glass of wine, a box of chocolates, and your favorite book, then go for it! Treat yourself!
Whatever makes you feel happy, beautiful, and loved, because that’s what Valentine’s Day is all about.
